Connecting with constituents is a critical part of a local elected official’s role. For many reasons, social media is the most effective and efficient medium through which to connect. Some of our prior blog posts have highlighted these reasons, e.g., speed of response on these platforms, gaps in information created by news deserts
Now that we have several months with active users on Voxifly, we are thrilled to see evidence that we are succeeding at what we set out to do-- help our clients engage and connect.
Listening to local officials
The motivation for VoxiFly came from conversations with local public officials. As we spoke with leaders in different roles across various communities, a common theme emerged: they wanted to post more on social media, but they didn’t have time. Unlike national officials with larger teams who have dedicated staff managing their social media accounts, many local officials manage their own accounts. With the many high-priority tasks on their calendar each day—such as responding to constituent needs, attending meetings, and handling community crises—engaging on social media understandably falls lower on their priority list.
Checking-in on the evidence
After analyzing data from our existing clients, we discovered that officials using VoxiFly increased their posting frequency by more than 50%. On average, our clients are now posting one more time per week than they were prior to subscribing to our platform. This increase is both measurable and meaningful, representing a statistically significant difference at the 0.05 level.
Below is a visual representation of the significant increase in posting frequency. The chart clearly illustrates the boost in activity our clients have experienced since adopting VoxiFly into their communication toolkit.
This uptick in posting frequency may seem like a small change, but it adds up. More posts mean more opportunities to share updates, amplify community organizations, and respond to pressing local issues in real time. When local leaders communicate more frequently, they foster trust and transparency, two essential components of effective governance.
In general, more posts mean more engagement
While posting more often helps keep elected officials visible, the real value comes from increased engagement. The second chart below demonstrates a direct correlation between how frequently officials post and how much engagement they generate. It is based on a very large dataset of U.S. local elected officials, which we have been collecting for several years. (You can read more about the underlying data here.)
The more often officials post, the more they drive conversations, encourage interaction, and strengthen ties with their constituents. This data shows that consistency in posting creates a ripple effect. More posts give officials more opportunities to be seen and heard, and that leads to greater community interaction. Engaged citizens are more informed and, importantly, more involved in local governance.
Strategic Posting: More is better, but strategy is key
While posting more frequently is important, strategic posting is even better. Voxifly doesn’t just encourage officials to post more—it helps them post smarter. Our AI-driven platform selects posts to highlight an official’s key priority issues, news of the day, ensures integrity of the content, prioritizes based on sentiment, tone and relevance, and more. This ensures that every post has the maximum possible impact.
With more frequent and more strategic posting, our clients are engaging their communities in meaningful ways. They are building trust, fostering transparency, and ensuring that they are in touch with the pulse of their constituents.
The Proof in Data
The data from both charts speak volumes about the power of consistent, strategic social media engagement. By increasing the quantity and quality of their social media posts, elected officials can boost their online presence and improve their relationships with the people they serve.
At Public Square Analytics, we’re excited to see how this trend continues as more officials use Voxifly to enhance their digital communication strategies. Because when it comes to staying connected, more really is more.
